Besides being a prominent member of several compelling European and New York bands, Joachim Badenhorst has recently gained the status of a preeminent solo improviser on bass clarinet. However, his greatest artistic achievement is unquestionably the Carate Urio Orchestra, an international line-up whose live rendition of the outstanding release, Sparrow Mountain, captivated the critics and the audiences alike at the Jazz Middelheim Festival in Antwerp. Proving to be a worthy rival of stellar American and European jazz masters, it was the Carate Urio Orchestra that created the strongest impression at Middelheim. The Ljubljana audiences will have the privilege of hearing the band’s latest material.
“On debut Sparrow Mountain casual improv skips to post-rock and folk, and adds sporadically even a dash of noise. Absolutely to discover!” Humo
