Terje Rypdal, Norwegian guitarist (and multi-instrumentalist), has embarked on his artistic career in late 1960s, first as a rocker and soon afterwards in musical partnerships with Jan Garbarek and George Russell. Besides rock, some of the decisive influences on Rypdal’s sound have been classical jazz musicians (including Duke Ellington and Miles Davis) and contemporary classical composers, such as György Ligeti and Krzysztof Penderecki. Rypdal’s signature sound melds different styles in a varying, scintillating flow of inspired interplays. Also composer of symphonic and chamber music, Terje primarily delves into jazz-fusion, of which Odyssey (ECM, 1975) is a supreme example. Accompanied by the Big Band RTV Slovenija,Rypdal will also share the stage with pianist Ståle Storløkken, his long-standing collaborator.
