Dans Dans

Belgium

Bert Dockx, guitar; Lyenn, bass; Steven Cassiers, drums

The Dans Dans trio, in their native Belgium mentioned in the same breath as some national artists of world renown, such as Stromae and Selah Sue, is one of recent years’ most sensational revelations on the European music scene. Mind you, we say the music scene, for originality, openness and freshness are not exclusive to one art form alone (at least as regards the Belgium’s new generation of trained musicians). Thus, members of the trio work with various line-ups, including Flying Horseman and Mark Lanegan’s group. Both their albums and their live shows are not only inspired by the likes of Sun Ra, Robert Wyatt and Ennio Morricone, but involve taking these masters on fearless improvisational adventures.

The trio’s new album features a handful of distinctly original pieces, bearing the stamp of Dans Dans’ inimitable style. While taking on indelible, timeless themes, Dans Dans never fail to rise to the challenge of making them their own, with rolling drums, driving bass and elastic guitar lines. But it's above all live, dancing on the razor's edge, that the band reveals its true nature; a restless gang of music junkies constantly on the hunt for musical innovation.

A dialogue between three virtuoso musicians who want to surprise instead of outclass each other.” (*****De Standaard)
