Natalija Kudrjašova, 14. 11. 2015
On Saturday, 14 November, the director of Pioneer Heroes, Natalya Kudryashova, addressed the Komuna Cinema audiences. She said that her ‘dream movie’ doesn’t deal so much with the differences between capitalism and communism but rather examines idealism and the issue of choice. Moderator Damijan Vinter wanted to know how she managed to get the children, who played the last generation of 1980s pioneers, identify with the reality that’s entirely different from theirs. “It’s one of the director’s tasks,” she replied confidently and went on to say that although living in an entirely new era, the children “understand maximalism very well”. Kudryashova dedicated the film to her generation, the Soviet Union children who were brought up to become heroes without really understanding the complexity of their homeland. Their upbringing included “a wonderful vision of heroism” and the desire to live in an ideal world.
