Theódór Júlíusson & Sigurður Sigurjónsson, 16. 11. 2015

On Monday, 16 November, CD’s Kosovel Hall hosted three Ljubljana Film Festival guests. After the afternoon screening of Rams, anIcelandic film by Grimur Hakonarson, the leading actors, Theódór Júlíusson and Sigurður Sigurjónsson, were greeted with a thunderous applause. The audience was just as talkative as the actors who recounted several anecdotes from the shooting. When asked why the brothers hadn’t spoken to each other for forty years Sigurjónsson replied that it was a long story and that he wasn’t going to go into details but explained that it was a film about love, the affection that is badly needed nowadays. Sigurjónsson, whose first movie 35 years ago also dealt with sheep, explained that he had grown up in a town in the outskirts of Reykjavik, but was familiar with the world of sheep farming as he had spent his summers in the countryside. Júlíusson added that all Icelanders are farmers, considering the fact that there are 320,000 people and over a million sheep. The seven-week filming took place in two stages as there was no snow in Iceland in December, and Sigurjónsson’s beard took six months to grow. When he finally shaved it off his wife was ecstatic and Sigurjónsson decided to use the facial hair for fly fishing. The audience was surprised to learn that even the most dangerous scenes did not involve stuntmen, “Of course. No faking in Iceland!”
