If America has Kamasi Washington then the continental jazz guru is indubitably Thomas de Pourquery. The eccentric sax player has bags of character, his voice has set new standards of soul (check out the videos of his gigs with the Magnetic Ensemble), while the devotion, perfection and jubilation with which the Supersonic revisit the sublime and mystical legacy of Sun Ra has taken France by storm and earned the six avant-garde musicians the Jazz Album of the Year Award at “Victoires de la musique”.
