For the last 20 years Paal Nilssen-Love has been one of the world’s most prolific and active Norwegian musicians, a drummer with thousands of gigs and hundreds of recordings to his name. Large Unit burst into life at the Molde Jazzfestival in 2013 and has since then toured Norway and played festivals all over Europe. Consisting of mostly younger, hugely talented Norwegian musicians, Large Unit has this year released a new album that firmly established the band’s relevance as a group with a sound of its own. A massive blast of collective energy, Large Unit is about the joyful dedication to original compositions but also the freedom of improvisation that effortlessly engages an appreciative listener.
