A politically outspoken and passionately expressive voice, sax player, poet and playwright Archie Shepp (b. 1937) is the darling of European jazz scene. An imposing Afro-American intellectual, a radical firebrand protesting against social injustice in the 1960s, Shepp infuses his free-jazz texture with elements of blues, Negro spiritual and Afro-American tradition. 

Shepp participated in the sessions for Coltrane’s legendary free-jazz album Ascension (1965). He is coming to Ljubljana with another legendary artist, bassist Reggie Workman (who also played with Coltrane), and a line-up of three distinguished instrumentalists belonging to a younger generation.
