It has been some time since the world of jazz has celebrated a (male) singer the way it does Gregory Porter, a mellow but also booming baritone who draws inspiration from the 1970’s soul and classical jazz ballads and hit tunes (Nat King Cole) as well as engaged gospel and blues. Gregory’s first two albums won a Grammy Nomination, but it was his third recording, Liquid Soul, that launched his illustrious career. Released last year under the Blue Note label, the album received the coveted Gramophone Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album. An utterly convincing voice and amazing original compositions that already sound like jazz standards.
