Romanic Quaternity Riding the Atlantic Musical Waves
Hugo Carvalhais, kontrabas; Dominique Pifarély, violina; Emile Parisien, sopranski saksofon; Gabriel Pinto, klavir; Mario Costa, bobni
This truly amazing quintet will play Hugo Carvalhais’ sophisticated tunes which are wide open in form but also solidly constructed, offering a great example of how jazz music should never fail to be surprising. One can hear influences of Dave Holland’s writing and dynamics but also Carlos Bica and his way of perfection through sound. This music won't have the audiences drifting into a doze, quite the contrary, it will thrill them by the way Carvalhais invests modern jazz with traditional French vibes, adding some local taste and very welcome new ingredients.
