This year’s Ljubljana Jazz Festival opened uncharacteristically, in a new concert venue, the Council of Europe Park. Ideally situated by an entrance to Cankarjev dom, the park served as an outdoor venue for the gig by a natural-born drummer, the astonishing Günter Baby Sommer. In the soft light of the evening sun this subtle musician placed his repetitive, highly hypnotic and rhythmic sound in the historical context of jazz.
