The first to appear on Thursday afternoon, Slovenian guitarist Samo Šalamon and his new sextet opened the second instalment of the jazz festival. Picking a team of stellar improvisers, Samo integrated them seamlessly into his complex music, the freely yet precisely composed sound. It was in the spacious auditorium of the Linhart Hall that this nicely readable music, both highly abstract and compact, could truly soar to unprecedented heights.
