Born in 2006, L.U.M.E. released its first record in October 2010 on JACC Records (PT). The eponymous album is a selection of the repertoire composed by Marco Barroso for this group, which articulates the talent and a sui generis complicity of a very diverse set of performers and improvisers.
Although inspired by the tradition of the big band model, the 15-piece orchestra led by composer Marco Barroso updates its speech in an intelligent and skilful fashion, combining written composition and improvisation with a dash of irony. Since their first release, the orchestra has appeared at all major festivals in Portugal, and has recently toured Benelux. The band’s second album – Xabregas 10 – was released on Clean Feed records. One of the most exciting large European impro-jazz ensembles is finally coming to Ljubljana. We can look forward to a perfectly ordinary festival afternoon, a Saturday flavoured with Portuguese sardines.
