Melem, Atanasovski’s 2017 album recorded with numerous guest artists, featured covers of traditional Balkan songs. Atanasovski’s credentials include several bands that fused jazz and other music genres, running from classical music and klezmer to rock and Balkan music. Recently, the Vasko Atanasovski Trio (featuring accomplished guitarist Dejan Lapanja and drummer Marjan Stanić) has focused on coupling jazz with elements of klezmer and rock. On this occasion, Atanasovski’s Trio is joining forces with acknowledged pianist Bojan Zulfikarpašić, who also tends to blend lyrical jazz with melancholy Balkan tunes, in a programme consisting of their original pieces as well as some sophisticated arrangements from the treasury of Balkan music.
