    LUX Film Prize

European Parliament supports European film industry

The objective of European Parliament Lux Prize is to illuminate public debate on the European integration and to facilitate diffusion of the most significant European (co)productions within the European Union.
By financing subtitles and facilitating diffusion, LUX Film Prize helps films reach wider audiences. Through awards, European Parliament supports cultural diversity and promotes connections among the European countries.

Three shortlisted films are represented at the LUX Film Day. Film enthusiasts can see screenings in 28 EU member states with subtitles available in all 24 official languages of the European Union.

Selected films cover topics which are part of Europeans’ lives, and address various challenges facing European societies. These challenges are also at the heart of the work of the European Parliament in which MEPs, elected in Member States, represent the interests of the EU’s 500 million citizens.

With a view to enabling citizens to effectively co-shape the Europe we want to live in, European Parliament supports the ‘www.skupajsmo.eu’ community which everyone can join.

European Parliament cooperates with European Film Industry
Since its inception in 2007, LUX Film Prize cooperates with numerous European film festivals such as Berlinale, The Directors' Fortnight Festival in Cannes, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Venice Days, festivals in Sofia, Stockholm, Thessaloniki, Vienna (Viennale), Tallinn (Black Nights), Cork, Bratislava and Seville as well as with the Ljubljana International Film Festival (Liffe).

    Masterclass

    WED, 20 November 2019, 16.00
    E1 Hall, Cankarjev dom

A masterclass focusing on selected aspects of the current creative, production and distribution realities of filmmaking in Europe is organized by the Motovila Institute (Creative Europe Desk Slovenia) in collaboration with Matthieu Darras. Experienced European audio-visual consultant, training organizer, film festival selector and decision maker, Darras will develop the talk around the know-how of top international film experts with whom he has collaborated as the founder and Head of First Cut Lab international training programme. This specialised four-day workshop is designed for feature fiction films at the editing stage. Selected Slovenian and regional filmmakers – who wish to refine their cinematic language and underline the essence of their film in the rough cut – will be given guidance by world-renowned consultants (editors, producers, sales agents and festival selectors). Benefitting from such tailored expert support, their films will be better prepared for the demanding international film market. The public masterclass aims to provide insight into this specific expertise to the interested professionals and festival audiences.

First Cut Lab is a consultancy programme designed for feature fiction films in the editing phase. Launched in 2015 at When East Meets West, FCL is now independently run by Tatino Films and headed by Matthieu Darras. Two main international hubs are in Trieste and Karlovy Vary and national programmes run in Finland, Kosovo, Poland, Turkey and Ukraine with further locations coming soon. Many of the participating films have gone on to premiere in A-list festivals such as Berlinale, Cannes, Toronto and San Sebastian. In Ljubljana, First Cut Lab is organized in partnership with Slovenian Film Centre and RE-ACT, and is designed for four film projects from Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy.
