The 18th DFF has begun!

The 18th Documentary Film Festival opened yesterday (Wednesday, 9 March) with the sold-out screening of The Russian Woodpecker by Ukrainian filmmaker Chad Garcia in CD’s Kosovel Hall.

The film will be screened again on Thursday, 17 March, in Kinodvor Cinema.

Until next Thursday, 17 March, thirty compelling films will be screened in Cankarjev dom’s Kosovel Hall, the Slovenian Cinematheque and Kinodvor Cinema, movies addressing the issues of contemporary world: from discrimination against women, minorities, migrant workers and political asylum seekers to environmental issues or religious fundamentalism, stories about innovative individuals and social phenomena as well as intimate and skilfully related tales. The eternal and ever relevant social and political themes including the burning and media exposed issues will also be spotlighted.

This year’s retrospective, involving eight long- and short-length films, is a tribute to the contemporary post-Soviet director Sergei Loznitsa.

The Best Human Rights Film will be awarded by the Amnesty International Slovenia at the concluding ceremony.
The winning short film made by primary school students on the initiative of AIS and under the guidance of mentors will also be screened.
