Amnesty International Slovenia Award for Best Human Rights Film

International jury consisting of Zlata Filipović, Urša Menart and Dragana T. Trivundža awarded the Amnesty International Slovenia prize for Best Human Rights Film to Censored Voices by Mor Loushy

Jury statement
The Best Human Rights Film Award goes to Censored Voices by Mor Loushy, a work of elaborate conceptual framework that disclosed the frequently concealed side of war. The interlacement of archival footage and audio recordings of interviews with soldiers on the winnings side of the Six-day War in 1967, the footage shot soon after the fighting and censored for over thirty years, reveals personal experience of power, shame, fear, disappointment and disillusionment. The soldiers that the Israeli State hails as heroes are still haunted by the issues of interpretation, consequences and significance of war; the issues examined by humanity ever since it has known war. The taboo topics addressed and the myths deconstructed are what makes this film universal and still relevant today, as the eternal theme it explores is any human conflict regardless of its historical or geographical context.

Special Mention goes to The Fog of Srebrenica by Samira Mehanović

The film features an astounding selection of interviews and an inspiring cinematography, poetic and symbolic photography that convincingly reflects the central theme. Evocative music provides a contrast to the horrible archival material, the footage that’s never misused or taken advantage of. The film is not only relevant because it examines the events and traumas of recent history, but also because it explores the brutal reality of contemporaneity.
