Aleš Rendla Sextet

Slovenia

Primož Fleischman, tenor, soprano saxophone, flute; Aljaž Rendla, clarinet, alto clarinet; Rebeka Zajc, keyboards, piano; Jani Moder, electric guitar; Jošt Drašler, double bass, electric bass; Aleš Rendla, drums, percussion

A veteran of the national jazz scene known from the bands Begnagrad, Srp, Quatebriga, Bratko Bibič & The Madleys and Fake Orchestra, Rendla’s gig will feature compositions from his second album, Dreamings/Sanjarije, an original vision of genre-crossing music, ranging through jazz and ethnic music to fusion and improvisation. Also a composer of film and theatre music and an educator, Rendla joined the RTV Slovenia Big Band in 1992. The sextet was formed when enlisting personnel for the new album. Unlike his debut release, Zgodbe/A.R.Tales (2010), which reflects his experience from Quatebriga and Begnagrad, Dreamings addresses contemporary trends in music. According to Rendla, his music is one “of opposition and contrast, spanning from the intricate droning sound of cicadae to the simplest pentatonic melody.”
