The Austrian quintet combines five charismatic musicians, each with his or her own approach to jazz. Five mindful team-players who dive into each other’s musical performance with full commitment. The focus is on the collective interplay in which all contributions are equally important. This approach, which has also been noted by the media – “chuffDRONE – a band, where everybody is a leader” (Katherine Zybaluk, Meloport) –, culminates in a finely balanced interaction where boundaries between composition and improvisation disappear and the members dexterously control occasional eruptions of ecstasy with largely contemplative progressions. After a self-titled debut album that came out in 2015, the band released a double album, actio / re:action, (both on JazzWerkstatt Records) in 2020. chuffDRONE’s credentials include various prestigious festivals, most notably the Moers, Jazztopad, Alto Adige, Saalfelden and Inntöne.
